How self-sufficient are we in Ontario? In Canada? This video presents the facts about the trend toward importing the majority of food we eat instead of supporting our own economy by buying food grown in our local farm communities – food that is fresh, of a higher quality, and better-tasting. Farmland loss has accompanied this shift over the past several decades. The video states: “While much of our farmland is protected on paper, it is disappearing at an alarming rate. In the second half of the 20^th century, Central Ontario paved over 49% of its prime farmland to accommodate the expansion of the GTA.” Support our farmers, choose locally-grown meat and produce, and speak up about the need for greater farmland protection.
